The Performer

Brendan Meier is an active clarinetist and woodwind doubler based out of Islip Terrace on Long Island, New York. As a clarinetist, Brendan is a regular member of the New Inlet Chamber Orchestra, has performed in several chamber music groups including the self-established Long Island Wind Quintet, and has performed solo repertoire in numerous recitals including a performance at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in NYC. While clarinet is his primary instrument, Brendan is far more active and successful as a woodwind doubler in pit orchestras both on and off Long Island. He is a capable performer on every woodwind instrument including double reeds. As a pit musician, Brendan’s most significant credit is as a member of the select pit orchestra at the College Light Opera Company on Cape Cod in Falmouth, MA where he performed 9 different musicals in 10 weeks for a total of 54 performances. In addition to this, he has performed in over 30 shows for a number of companies including The Argyle Theatre (Babylon), CM Performing Arts Center (Oakdale), Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts, Star Playhouse (Commack), Sid Jacobson JCC (East Hills), Three Village Music Theatre Company, Hofstra University (Hempstead), and Productions Over the Rainbow (Stony Brook).

Brendan holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with a concentration in special music education and a performance certificate on Clarinet from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. He also holds a Master of Music degree in Music Education with a concentration on multiple woodwind performance and pedagogy from Hofstra University.  His primary teachers on clarinet include Dr. Laurie Friedman, Dr. Raphael Sanders, Dr. Julianne Kirk-Doyle, Joel Levy, and Christopher Neske. He has also studied with Prof. Alejandro Aviles and Dr. Robert Young on saxophone, Prof. Patricia Spencer and Prof. Kenneth Andrews on flute, Prof. Judith Dansker-DePaolo and Dr. Anna Hendrickson on oboe, and Prof. Lisa Alexander and Dr. Carole Lowe on bassoon.
